Center City Housing is proud to announce that Minnesota Housing, the state’s housing finance agency, has selected New San Marco for a renovation project and Welch Place for a new construction project. Both projects project Sept/Oct 2024 start dates. With these new investments, Center City Housing will be able to preserve 70 units at the New San Marco and create 30 new units at Welch Place. We are excited about investing over $23M in our Spirit Valey and Central Hillside neighborhoods. Executive Director for Center City Housing, Nancy Cashman, said this about the historic investments made by MN Housing. “Center City is immensely grateful and humbled by the trust Minnesota Housing has in us as an organization. This capital investment will build hope for the tenants and community. We are ready to get to work investing in and building permanent supportive housing for Duluth and the Northland.”

These buildings will provide 100 units of Housing First, Permanent Supportive Housing for individuals who have experienced homelessness and high barriers to housing in the Duluth community. Rents are designed to be within the financial reach of individuals earning 30%-60% of the area’s median income. Minnesota Housing, HUD, City of Duluth, and St Louis County have been and continue to be amazing project partners in funding and operations. After construction completion, Center City Housing will manage over 600 supportive housing units in Duluth and over 1000 deeply affordable and supportive housing units across Minnesota.
