We started like most nonprofits…a good idea developed by people with good hearts.
In 1973, 10 Duluth Central Hillside Neighborhood congregations joined to form CHUM, an ecumenical coalition to address homelessness and the growing number of adults needing chemical dependency assistance. Part of that original group’s mission was to pave pathways to stable housing…And so, Center City Housing Corp was formed.
Fast forward to 1986, Center City Housing Corp became its own 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable corporation with a mission that endures to this day… ”Housing First.”
CCHC grew from that first year of 3 buildings and about 90 affordable housing units in Duluth to 27 buildings and over 1000 units across the State of MN. And we are still growing all over the state as the need for housing, in all its forms, persists. We focus on delivering integrated services onsite that are human-centered and culturally aware and provide restoration of dignity, creating a pathway in life. We will continue using Housing First, Trauma Informed, and Harm Reduction Care and Development principles to provide “Housing First.”
