The New San Marco, initially opened in 2007, is a 70-unit community built with studio flats with/ 1 bathroom per unit. It offers a cafeteria, access to public transportation options, supportive services onsite, 24/7 secured access, front desk services, and an outdoor patio with grills.
Minnesota Housing provided significant funding through Housing Infrastructure Appropriations (HIA), which are direct state appropriations not associated with issuing bonds and the state and federal requirements related to tax-exempt bonds.
Construction is due to start in late spring/early summer 2025.
The general contractor on the project will be the same as the original builder, Watson-Forsberg.

Since 2007, the New San Marco has been a groundbreaking and trailblazing property that has sparked communities like it in cities all over MN. The “New, New” San Marco will start work in the fall of 2024. All new HVAC systems, envelope repair, foundation work, and a complete interior remodel are scheduled to ensure the San Marco remains a transformational building well into the future.
